What's the difference between Tottenham Hotspur and a triangle? . . . . . . . . . . A triangle has three points.

Dear David Foster Wallace,
When I saw your author photo on the back of my cover of Infinite Jest I judged that you and I probably wouldn't like each other. There is an argument to be made that the novel itself was a tad bit overblown and in need of some editing, but it is not an argument I will make. You took me on a grueling and enjoyable literary ride which I will forever appreciate. It kinda sucks you hanged yourself.

Conrad pointed out to me that Nike made a commercial about my life. Just figured I would share it. They took creative license and made me Dutch though.

| smoking ban |
[08 Jan 2008|04:22pm] |
a lot of people in chicago have been talking about the smoking ban since it just went into effect here in chicago. so in honor of discourse i will throw in my two cents:
smoking is bad for you, second hand smoke is bad for you and others. everybody knows this, it hurts people, lets get past this. with that fact remaining, anyone who voted for the smoking ban is a fascist. if you are allergic to smoke and/or have breathing problems and going to a bar hurts you so therefore you cant go, i'm sorry. but you don't go running to the government to shut everything down. the smoking ban is a direct hit against private enterprise and the fact that it has gone through with such glee and promotion is utterly terrifying. if you couldn't go to a bar because the second hand smoke was so bad, get enough people together and talk to the owner of said bar and convince him of having one night a week at the establishment be smoke free. if you can get enough people to be behind it you can show him that it would be worth it, and hell maybe over time he would choose to make his bar completely smoke free. but that right there is the whole thing. The owner is the one choosing what happens in his own bar. if he wants to make it smoke free than i have absolutely no problem with that whatsoever. the true problem is the government telling people what they can and cant do with their own private businesses. what the smoking ban is doing is the equivalent of a co-worker doing something that inadvertantly gives you more work to do, and instead of addressing the co-worker to explain the situation you go crying to the boss trying to get him fired. the moral of the story is the fact that an owner of a business can't make decisions like whether it is ok or not for people to do something that is completely legal in his own establishment, is utterly fucked up.

[12 Dec 2007|07:28pm] |
I've been a fan of Dominic Hasek since back in his Buffalo days, so naturally I became a bigger fan back when he signed for the Red Wings. Here is why i keep on loving the guy. I cannot recall ever seeing anything like this before.

so the NFL game at Wembley yielded this little gem on the top of the BBC Sports section of their website
"I couldn't find London on a map if they didn't have the names of the countries. I swear to God. I don't know what nothing is. I know Italy looks like a boot. I know (Washington Redskins linebacker) London Fletcher. We did a football camp together. So I know him. That's the closest thing I know to London. He's black, so I'm sure he's not from London. I'm sure that's a coincidental name." Miami Dolphins linebacker Channing Crowder ahead of the clash with the New York Giants at Wembley. Americans - gotta love 'em.
awesome. his logic is almost flawless.

looking forward to: -yelling at Landycakes -seeing Bocanegra play -seeing Maestroni play -hopefully seeing Justin Mapp get an overdue run-out with the national team instead of his token substitute cameo appearance, hopefully he will get a solid chance in the Copa America as well -seeing Jared Borgetti, Omar Bravo, and Rafa Marquez play for Mexico

| Rant |
[03 May 2007|03:27am] |
Dear Humanity.
Stop wearing fucking Crocs.
For those of you who don't know, the spreading virus known as the Croc are these stupid shoes.
They come in all sorts of sizes and colors and I've seen everyone from infants to businessmen in suits wearing these miserable things. Over the past week i've seriously seen at least three different people wearing them every day. They are a multi-gendered Jelly Shoe with the princess taken out, which ends up looking like some sort of protective shower shoe that has the medicinal purpose of not spreading various types of foot fungus. And contrary to advertisements there are not many acceptable situations for wearing Crocs. In fact there are none. So save yourself the embarassment and just stop wearing them. You look stupid.
Sincerely,
-Neal
